Property deed resolution for a young family after an unexpected death

unexpecteddeath.jpg

The situation: After a young father passed away, his widow wanted to move to Michigan with their five minor children to be closer to family. When the widow discovered that her husband had never put her name on the deed for their house, she learned she could not sell her home without first compensating her minor children for their future interest in the homestead.

Our solution: Anne G. Brown was able to determine the value of each child’s future interest, then petition the court for protective orders that allowed the mother to deposit the value of each child’s interest into five certificates of deposit, to be held by the court until each child’s 18th birthday.

The result: With a creative solution to a complex problem, our team got the results our client needed to move on after a very difficult situation. We also helped secure a portion of her children’s future with a resolution that benefited all parties involved.
